Dublin Historical Society’s 2026 Summer Exhibition will focus on Dublin’s role
during the Revolutionary War period. This exhibit will highlight what we know
about the Town of Dublin during the Revolutionary period of 1770’s to 1780’s.
Some interesting town records survived and will be displayed along with
transcriptions of the documents. The information about the town during that
period includes the men who served and information on the Revolutionary War
soldiers who are buried in Dublin Cemetery. During the War for Independence 65
men from Dublin- more than 20 percent of the town’s population of 305- put
their lives on the line for the sake of a set of ideals that would come to embody a
nation yet to be born.
The tax lists and census records show that there was growth of the population in
Dublin and neighboring towns before, during and immediately after the
revolutionary period. Life was difficult and if hard times were insurmountable,
people would move elsewhere. What did they eat? What happened to the
women who were left behind when their husbands went off to fight?
