SUMMER DHS SCHOOLHOUSE MUSEUM EXHIBIT - DUBLIN IN THE REVOLUTIONARY PERIOD
Dublin Historical Society’s 2026 Summer Exhibition will focus on Dublin’s role during the Revolutionary War period. This exhibit will highlight what we know about the Town of Dublin during the Revolutionary period of 1770’s to 1780’s. Some interesting town records survived and will be displayed along with transcriptions of the documents. The information about the town during that period includes the men who served and information on the Revolutionary War soldiers who are buried in Dublin Cemetery. During the War for Independence 65 men from Dublin- more than 20 percent of the town’s population of 305- put their lives on the line for the sake of a set of ideals that would come to embody a nation yet to be born.
The tax lists and census records show that there was growth of the population in Dublin and neighboring towns before, during and immediately after the revolutionary period. Life was difficult and if hard times were insurmountable, people would move elsewhere. What did they eat? What happened to the women who were left behind when their husbands went off to fight?
DHS Annual Meeting
The Dublin Historical Society welcomes Mel Allen, writer for Yankee Magazine since 1977, and editor-in-chief of Yankee since 2006. Mel will talk on "Listening to New England," with a section on his relationship with Yankee and Jud Hale, and what his days at Yankee were like. Following the talk, he will invite questions, and will have copies of his latest book, Here in New England, available for sale.
Cemetery Tour
To conclude Dublin’s Historical Society’s Summer Exhibit at the Schoolhouse Museum, the Historical Society will host a fall cemetery walk. Come visit the graves of those who served in the Revolutionary War and were mentioned in this year’s exhibition. You’ll also have the chance to visit other graves of interest. Will Elcoate the current Dublin Cemetery Superintendent will lead the event with assistance from DHS members. Will is pleased to answer any questions concerning the Cemetery, its history and operation. The walk date is September 12th starting at 11 a.m. with a rain date of September 19th. Join the Dublin Historical Society in welcoming Erin E. Moulton as she presents The Beginner’s Guide to Cemetery Sleuthing! Dinner is free and open to all. We encourage people to bring dishes to share: appetizers, salads, casseroles, main dishes, and desserts. Tea and coffee will be provided.
